If you haven't read the article on ANN, here it is:

Bandai Entertainment Denies 5 cm per Second License

What's interesting is that ADV finally came out and admitted the reason they stopped North American distribution was because they no longer had the license for it.

So, what does this mean? Has another company picked up the license and is producing a new dub version? Or is this all just a bunch of cow patties (the kind you find in a field, not the kind you fry up)?

Gia Manry over at AnimeVice has a blog from New York Comic Con on the Bandai panel, where the company guy stated that they are NOT releasing 5cm. I guess this is the best confirmation so far. Still, the question remains: Who's going to pick up North American distribution?

I think if any US company will redistribute 5CM, I think it'd probably be FUNimation as in my opinion, they seem to be in the best position as far as licensing goes. At least, that's what I think or I should say hope. I'd hate to end up having the disc snap one time while taking it out of the case. Something like that has happened with me, it was a night I'll always remember. I was showing a friend You're Under Arrest, we got to volume 6 of YUA, but it got stuck while taking it out. I pulled a little harder, and before I knew it, it snapped.

I would say whoever gets the N.A. rights will get the AU rights as well. seeing as ADV released the other shinkai movies in both N.A. and AUS. but me thinks we are in for a LONG wait. seeing as there has been no distribution of new DVDs for quite some time now. ADV have not been distributing since july. im just worried that no one is going to pick up the license, it has been almost 2 years since the original release in cinimas after all
