I know I'm totally blown away by the end statement in Voices, I was similarly blown away by the end line in this short.
"This world, I think we like it." - Chobi
Another very powerful, and yet very positive statement similar to what we see in Voices. I poked around 5 CM to see if there was a similar way of wrapping up the story and it didn't have that final statement .... or at least it didn't formally express that statement in words.

You are absolutely right but this shouldn't be too surprising since we know it's Shinkai's work right? Geniuses always produce masterpieces.
But still I can't deny it is a very powerful statement indeed. |

i think that the reason for the lack of ending quote in byousuko was that it was not meant to be a happy ending. in voices they where reunited through thought. i am here. In kumo no mukou Sayuri woke from her dreams. the end quote was(but i feel that our lives start now) in she and her cat life goes on.
In byousuko there is no reunification and no happy ever after quote. i belive that by leaving out the end quote it gave the ending a more sorrowful ending and even made it hollow in some ways, as it would be i real life as there is no closure.
or maybe he couldn't think of a good one;) |

I felt Takaki's smile was the closeing line all in it's self in 5 CM. It says alot with out words.
I how ever did not feel much from line closing line in She and Her Cat, it didn't seem to have as much substance as his other closing lines or "lines"! |

| This is just me thinking, but I remember something like a closing line in 5 cm, the last words before the "One more time" music took over. I believe Takaki said something like, "and we will once again watch the cherry blossoms fall. . . together," followed by Akari repeating, ". . . together." Those were probably not the actual words, but it seemed like an attempt at some sort of closing line, though perhaps more wishful than satisfying. |

Yeah ... thinking about it ... the entire montage and the final spoken words come together to equate to the final statement of the movie. In some ways it's more powerful this way in that it leaves some of this open to interpretation by the viewer.
Either way ... powerful stuff ^-^ _________________ You're a woman, I'm a calf ... you're a window, I'm a knife ... we come together making chance into starlight ... - Jeff Buckley

"I... and maybe her too... this world... I think we like it."
"Boku wo... sorekara tabun kanojou mo... kono sekai no koto... suki nandatta omou"
I'm not sure if I missed any particles but I had a listen and this is what I think was said. I like doing these type of things haha. If anyone else knows Japanese or is learning, have a listen to the video and see if I got it correct. |

| It's a strange sentence, don't you think? Just seems like a weird thing to say. Is the English dubbing true to Shinkai's original intentions with that last line? I'd be interested to learn Japanese and interpret the last line in it's original form - because I can't help but feel that the translation doesn't do it justice. |

I saw this again a couple days ago and I think the translation is true to the Japanese. I always just focus on the last part of that line " ... this world ... I think we like it".
