Ok ...I was thinking about this the other day while chatting with Sai (one of our Chinese friends on the chat ... have I told you about the chat yet? ha ha ha ...).
Things are kinda slow ... and it's probably going to be a while until the next Shinkai work comes out so we need something to look forward too.
I propose a Global Shinkai Day. Let me explain, this would entail 24 hours of Shinkai along with 24 hours of communal chat. So ... 12:01 in the first TZ of a given day ... everyone logs on and at the given time turns the given SHinkai movie on at the same time (yes this does assume you have access to the movies at home .. somehow) ... and we enjoy and chat and discuss. We roll through the library, probably a few times , so that all time zones can have a pass. Maybe have a few votes during the day or contests.
Would you be up for something like this if this was on a weekend?
I'm thinking if that with the right approach .. we might be able to get the company that owns the rights to let us stream the video and who knows ... maybe we can get Mr Shinkai himself to pop in for a chat.
Anyway ... Sai was going to run this idea past the folks he knows.
What do ya think?

I'm just thinking why I've never considered this idea. That's brilliant, a "Global Shinkai Day"!
I'm in. Anything for Shinkai hehe. Now we need to select a suitable day when everyone is not busy for it.
Any more info? |

Sounds like a brilliant idea! If you had to choose a day of the week I'd say Saturday, but it's kinda tricky since you firstly need to pick a day that has meaning to Shinkai's works, hmm.. _________________ Of all the things I've lost, I miss my mind the most. |

| A Saturday time is better for me. How long would we have to stay on for our respective TZ's? |

It would be for however you want to stay on ... no pressure ... hopefully we'd have enough Global coverage that we'd have some people on throughout the day.
Yes ... Sai and I were trying to figure out what days were significant in the movies. Most of the action occurs in March or when the Sakura are blooming ... maybe Place promised or 5 CM had something in the Winter time.

| It seems that all the winter scenes were in March or February. I'd go with doing it during Japan's Sakura festival, or Hanami. Anime Insider did an article on it in their March issue, saying that the date depends on when the trees decide to bloom. That makes it rather difficult to pinpoint. Is anyone else familiar with the festival? |

Sounds like a great idea, gleowine. A shame Hanami doesn't seem to have an official date... _________________ Of all the things I've lost, I miss my mind the most. |

I thought I was going to get lucky when Takaki is walking through town and there are still Christmas decorations all around .. but there was not date. the closest thing I got was the Feb 2 date when Risa emails Takaki (from the cell phone).
Hmmmm .. might have to wait until March for a good date.
That should give me time to get the wheels rolling for the Global Day. I'd need to contact CoMix Wave, etc ....
