Anyone watched this one? If you click on Stories you can get to Youtube channel where all parts are avaivable. It has some compareision to Shinkais Artwork as I saw it. I only read that it is from an independent studio. However even I don't know what the story is exactly about the artwork are looking very nice.

Some of the images do have a Shinkai-like feel to them. Some of them have me really interested to see the final product. I couldn't find the youtube link, though. Any clues?

EDIT: Oh, I see. The Stories link. I'll check that out.

I'm not too crazy about torrents, but thanks raglez. It seems a typical story line about a boy and girl in high school, though I'm sure there is more to it than that. Subs would be great, though.

Actually, gleowine, that was really all there was.  Basically, it's about a young woman who's reminiscing about her time in high school and a boy she used to, well, hang out with until they basically broke up.

There were a few interesting things, like the choice to go to a 4/3 standard frame and a sepia-like tone for the flash back.  The characters were a very old school style that made me think late 80's Ghibli studios.  Some of the landscapes were really nice.  It is a nice effort by a small independent studio (I'm guessing not more than 6-8 people worked on this?)

But frankly, nothing really stood out about it.  Though the clouds in this are actually rendered a bit more realistically than Shinkai's clouds, that also meant that they just didn't stick out.  Shinkai also tends to saturate colors in his scenes; World Comes Around just feels muted as a result.  Plus the music just really didn't stick out, and there's no sense of good timing when it came to background sound effects.

But these are minor quibbles overall compared to just how it was presented.  Though Shinkai is one of the worst offenders of "show, don't tell" I know of, this show goes way beyond that.  The whole run is basically the girl's monologue over mostly still shots and the occasional animated scene.  I didn't feel any connection to her.  I had little idea of her personality, or even much sense of how she acted around others.  Her crying felt sudden.  I just felt... bored watching through it.  Even She and Her Cat kept me mesmerized and felt like there was even more animation than in this short.

Basically, the entire run felt rather mundane.  It's weird, because it has the same basic premise and end message as She and Her Cat, even attempts to capture the same atmosphere as Shinkai's other work with the trains running by and aircraft flying overhead.  But it just didn't capture me on the first run.

As it's so short, I'll try to watch it later to see if I catch anything that'll change my view of it, but the creators basically played this short by the book, hence, nothing of it sticked out.  Shinkai at least broke some rules (the earlier mentioned "Show, don't tell", but he also used lens flares and off-screen dialog like they were going out of style!).  I do hope the group can do better next time.
