I've read somewhere that the cat was from Byousoku 5CM...
She and Her Cat was a very well made short clip.
Makoto Shinkai is a pure genius. Who can't say yes to that?

Hi!
I like this short as well (great surprise to everyone ).
It appears that there's less narration than in his other films, and he relies on the images to tell the story more ... just my opinion.
I need to pop this in again and give it a watch.

the other way round. the cat from she and her cat is called chobi
Mr. makoto also used the name for the cat the children find in the first part of byousuko.
interestingly makoto shinkai's cat is called Sayuri. now where have i heard that name before.
it is a very well made clip. the best 5 min movie i have ever seen by a long way. |

If I remember well, the voice of the cat is the voice of Makoto Shinkai himself^^
EDIT : In neko no shuukai, the neko's name is chobi as well XD |

This short creation is bearing the marks of all Shinkai Makoto anime. Shinkai-sensei can concentrate incredibly much message, emotion, matter to every minute of the work. This involves that kind of effect which cause abstraction. Very impressive and contains deep thoughts. Despite the colors are black and white, the visulas are delighful and unique. That’s true for the heavenly music, composed by Tenmon-sensei. I love cats, plus one credit |

I really liked the back and forth between Chobi and Mimi (Chobi's girlfriend) ... I know it's almost too cute, but I'm a sucker for cats.

You know, the first time I ever watched She And Her Cat, I thought the girl was Akari. I thought it was a small epilogue of 5cm per second.
I felt my heart tear apart with emotion when the scene where she cries next to the phone came up and I thought she was trying to call Takaki.
Then later on I realised it is a completely something else. It was another of Shinkai's Shorts. |

lol, She and her cat was created by Mr. Shinkai in 2 weeks during the creating of Voices of a Distant Star back in 2001-2002. I watch she and her cat almost daily . I am actually a part of a group creating a 5min. short in similar style to shinkai. She and her cat and VOIDS is our insperation. Once it is finished I will most likely send this site a link

Wow that is wonderful, we'll be waiting eagerly for it to be finished.
I have been having fantasies of my own creating my own shorts inspired by Shinkai's works for a long time now.
