I don't like top lists because I always change my mind but, at the moment, I can say that 5CM is at the top. It is the most complete anime I've ever seen.
At the second place we have "Grave of the Fireflies". I absolutely suggest it.
Then we have "Voices of a distant star", "Akira", "Howl’s Moving Castle", the "Evangelion" saga and "Slam Dunk" (I find it very funny).
These are the anime that impressed me the most. Another one that could enter the list is "Death note", but I'm still watching it.
I know they are not 20, but I don't know a lot of anime. Those that I watched but I don't remember it means they didn't impress me much.

Hahaha, awesome! Castle In the Sky was the first anime I ever watched - I was instantly hooked. Laughing

I thought Ponyo was really good. It seemed like it was meant more for kids, and I personally don't think it was as good as Miyazaki's other movies - but it was still really good. I enjoyed it a lot. Very Happy

I rarely have top favorites as I enjoy a lot of things so my lists usually have no order. And keep in mind I have a rather large anime list, hehe. I just can't bother listing them all.

1. Byousoku 5 CM
2. Hoshi no Koe

4. Kanojou to Kanojou no Neko (I'll consider this an anime)
5. Grave of the Fireflies
6. Clannad
7. Air
8. Gunslinger Girl
9. Death Note
10. Cowboy Bebop
11. NHK ni Yousoku
12. Chobits
13. Toki wo Kakeru Shoujo
14. Spirited Away
15. Naruto (a long anime yes, but it has its positives)
