Hi all, updating this first post to put in the info to connect to the Ventrilo server:
Download the Ventrilo client from here.
Here's the connection info:
Host: 74.54.222.40
Port: 4768
Password: 19zeek81
The password is for logging into the server; use it for the server setup.
Once you're in, you have to go into the following channel:
Channel: Cherry Blossoms Falling
Channel Password: shinkai09
(That is "shinkai" - zero - nine)
Also, Press the "Chat" button to open up the text chat window. This will allow those without Mics to participate.
Thank you,
Zitch
ORIGINAL POST:
Should we use TeamSpeak, Ventrillo, or Skype to do voice chats with each other?
Hopefully I'll have a 50 Mbps (download and upload speed) connection at my house before the event which should be pretty plenty for alot of connections. If I can get the connection up far ahead of GSD2009, I'll setup a Teamspeak or Ventrillo server and announce it here so we can set things up ahead of time.
I am personally leaning heavily towards TeamSpeak since it actually has Linux client support, but it's possible that Ventrilo has better Mac support (It at least has official Mac support). It'll be something we will have to test and see.
I'll also need to look into possibly recording the chat, creating channels (or letting users create their own), etc.
Any thoughts, suggestions, or ideas on getting a voice chat up? Would it even be necessary?

Great ideia Shinkay day,
I have some questions: In what day? I can´t find anywhere, what is the day? and at what hours will it start, (LA time, London time ??)
the last one, to participate, what is needed? _________________

Looks like Ventrillo is more popular here; I can deal with getting the Ventrillo client running on my Linux laptop.
I'll install that on my server...
... well, once the fiber connection is up (which I don't know when will happen other than early this year, possibly end of January). If this doesn't happen in February, I'll look into renting a ventrillo server for the month (and give us enough time to try out the connection ahead of time). |

Initial tests with Laz seems to be a success with some minor (and easily overcome) issues.
At some point in the next couple of weeks, I'd like to plan a more public meetup on vent to test bandwidth on my connection. I'll put down instructions on how to setup the Ventrilo client and connect to the server before then, but what's a good day to meet? I was thinking next Sunday. |

We'd most likely have the vent server up the entire time.
Zitch .. have you run any additional tests on this ? What's the word?
