The first animation of Makoto Shinkai I saw was Hoshi no koe and I was quite impressed about his work but when I saw Byousuku 5 centimeter that was a real chock for me ! I was really a magic moment for me to see the animation of this ... and by the way I love that kind of story also.
I was just wondering if someone know if he is making something else for the time ? Preparing some new wonderfull thing ?
I did not remembered where I saw that but someone said he was the new Miyazaki ... well I totally agree with that !

Welcome Aikiko.
Apart from Hoshi no Koe and Byousoku 5 Centimeter, there is also his longest film, Kumo no mukou Yakusoku no basho (The place promised in our early days). I recommend you to watch it as all other Shinkai fans would.
At the moment, Shinkai-san is in England, learning English and hoping to find inspiration to use for his next film as soon as he comes back to Japan next year and we all are looking forward to it.
Miyazaki and Shinkai has different styles so you cannot really compare them but in the sense of amazingness, yes, Shinkai is the next Miyazaki. |

It's not so much of an OVA, more an animated short. It's found on both the UK and US Voices of a Distant Star [Hoshi no Koe], under extras.
Definately worth seeing. It comes closely after Tooi Sekai and 5CM as my favourite Shinkai works. |

Hi Aikiko,
Welcome to the boards. There's a post about he recent Q&A with Shinkai-sensei here on the site ... talks a little about they type of thing he might be doing next ... something probably less Japan specific and more global. Seems like Shinkai wants to create something that will reach a wider audience. He's currently in the UK.
