Anime News Network is reporting that ADV's North American distributor has added 5 CM to its out-of-print list. No reason given. I hope this isn't a trend, especially with regard to both past and future releases of Shinkai's works. It may be just an isolated deal.

| This seems to be related to ADV's troubles in general. I do have my fingers crossed that things will work out ok for them, but nobody seems to really know what's going on. |

I did not like ADV's release anyways, I was heavily disapointed with the dub. _________________ You know your old when, you reapeat things... you repeat things... you repeat things. |

I didn't even know there was a dub of it :O
I've only watched it with subs. _________________ There are certain moments where some people should just be left unknown. |

Originals are the best. I always avoid dubs.
Just like a packet of crisps. People may like different flavours but it is the flavours that they enjoy. The original contains the true flavour of the food without any covering. |

I have a theory, based solely on personal experience, haha.
You enjoy whatever you first saw, but I have to wait til I've seen the dub of 5cm before I can confirm the theory. Also, it can make a huge difference if the subs are poorly done - it can really put you off.
Hey that makes me wonder, is Shinkai doing his next work in Japanese? I mean he lived in London, he wants the next one to appeal to a broader audience... do you think English is something he'd consider? I highly doubt it, but it's just a thought... _________________ There are certain moments where some people should just be left unknown. |

What I meant by original was the first version. No dubs, no subs. Just raw. Yes, you are right about people can enjoy what they saw first but I'm just saying in overall, the originals are best.
Shinkai will be going back to Japan to work on his next film which means most likely Japanese also, though I think there'll be references to English.
I've probably said this many times but I really can't wait! |

Well yeah, if I could understand Japanese then I'd watch the originals haha. I've actually thought about that before, how awesome it would be to see it how it was intended to be seen, in it's own language. I'm sure I'm missing out on all these things that are lost in translation.
And yeah it'll be my first new Shinkai movie - I didn't have to wait for any of the others - just watched them all in a block. _________________ There are certain moments where some people should just be left unknown. |

This may sound like heresy, but I almost watch nothing but dubs. Unless of course there are none, like with the upcoming "Emma" release, which I can't wait to see. I turn on the subs every now and then, like when I worked on my essay. Nothing against those who prefer subs.
BTW, things have gotten a little off topic here, so maybe someone should start a thread about subs vs. dubs. Should be interesting.
