One of the main things that got me attracted to Shinkai's work was the stunning artwork and ever since seeing 'Place Promised' i've been on quest to find as many high quality, high resolution images of his art to use as wallpapers.
On Shinkai's japanese site there are quite a few wallpapers but they all have an ugly black border at the top bottom~ thus i've spent a bit of time finding high resolution scans of his work and have turned a nubmer of them into wallpapers. The majority of scans available where from 'Place Promised' and i have still not been able to find anything decent to use for 'Voices' and only a couple for 5CM.
I'm on a 1440x900 resolution screen so all my wallpapers have been that size. But if anyone'd like to display, show links, or even request any wallpapers then this'd be the perfect place to do it.

Another place you can get some wonderfull Shinkai wallpapers is at xiaobeike-alexshell's devientART. In his gallery and between his numerous desktop screenshots are many brilliant wallpapers that you can download.
I hope some of you find these usefull and will post your own wallpapers or links.

| That's one of the picture i've been trying to find a high res file for. Then i'd could resize it in good quality without the black borders. Never the less; that is a brilliant image. |

I've been wanting to make a Shinkai Theme for my PS3 ... perhaps I'l grab some of those for a background.

ahh man....the art team that work with Shinkai Makoto is absolutely incredible. It's very inspiring for me but at the same time also crushing to know that I'll probably never be able to envision such well detailed images haha. I don't know how to draw right now, but every now and then (err...like once or twice every month or two lol) I try to doodle something out, usually to poor results haha. My thought is that if I try little by little, *maybe* someday I can be halfway decent at it lol

If you want to to be "uncrushed", (re-)watch Shinkai's pre-Place Promised work, like Voices of a Distant Star and She and Her Cat. It's not that they aren't amazing in themselves, but those are Shinkai's art all by himself and you should be able to see the weaknesses (and the direction techniques he uses to minimize those weaknesses then).
