Enlighten me on some more works. If you may of course hehe.
I'm curious if any of you are knowledgeable of any writers or directors that have work that's similar to Makoto Shinkai? Perhaspe I'm just a fool and it's just because I felt a connection between his characters but his stories seem to real and realistic.
Want to be enlighten of more writers that can bring life to there work like he can.

He's not the same style as Shinkai, but it looks like Yasuhiro Yoshiura is starting out the same way Shinkai did, doing the writing, storyboarding, directing, animating and editing himself. Check out his Pale Cocoon. While it doesn't have the gorgeous visuals like Shinkai's work did, the style had a claustrophobic feel that really fit the feel of the storyline (Except for the ending, which along with the relavation is just plain jaw-dropping.
For what I consider the best animated short of all time, try to find COMEDY by Studio 4°C. A very well presented and beautiful story, IMO.

Comedy is indeed the best animated short ever, so I have it up for download: Comedy.
Studio Rikka (Pale Cocoon) has a new movie in the works: Trailer.
The almost perfect equivalent to Shinkai's works is Shunji Iwai's movie All about Lily Chou-Chou. The imagery, style, music, themes are very similar.
