IntroductionKonnichiwa minna-san! Yoroshiku onegaishimasu!
I'm really chuffed that there's a community for Shinkai fans!
I first encountered Shinkai-san's works when I watched "She and Her Cat". I then went on to watch the rest of his films - needless to say, Byosoku 5 CM remains my fave to date (it's even in my list of Top 10 films of all time). Like all his other works, it is simple and intensely affective, and I am amazed by how gorgeous and sensual his use of light and colours are...
T'ra for now! x

Hey everyone.
It's rare to find other fans of Makoto Shinkai, so I'm glad to be here.
I had heard of "Voices of a Distant Star" some years ago, but not until I got interested in anime did I take a look at it. I was deeply moved by the story and stunned by the animation. The disk included as a bonus "She and Her Cat," which was also very touching. This led me to getting "The Place Promised..." Again, I was over-whelmed by the depth of the storytelling and the beauty and realism of the animation. I looked forward with eager anticipation to "5 Centimeters per Second," and after the DVD arrived, I couldn't stop watching it. I could really relate to Takaki, myself having been in his shoes often before.
I look forward to viewing and posting in the other forums.

Hi i'm chowb321!
I learned about Shinkai when I was 16 years old. I saw The Place Promised on the shelf in a movie store and decided to research on the director. Then i saw Voices first and now i'm a fan. I was amazed at first by the visuals and now i'm trying to learn how the heck does he do it.

Many thigns involved in how he does it, how he came to do it? I think life just lead him in that direction and he realized what he really loved along the way.
And welcome haha

Hello Everyone!
My name is André, I'm from Brazil, and I'm a great fan of Mr. Shinkai! Actually, he's one of my top favourite directors, together with Mr. Hayao Miyazaki.
The very first Shinkai work I've seen was Hoshi no Koe a few years ago... I guess that's why I consider it to be my favourite. I remember it called my attention because of the name... voices of a distant star... after watching, I couldn't explain how much I loved it! So I've watched all the main Shinkai's works since then and was also wondered by them =]
So, even though I don't have much free time, I've joined the forum, so that I can discuss a little about his amazing films.

Hi everyone.
The only anime I'd seen before Shinkai's work was Howle's Moving Castle and whatever junk they played on weekday mornings like pokemon or dragon ball z.
I happened across "Voices of a Distant Star" four days ago (Monday) - it played at around 1am on a local tv channel. The affect it had on me was unlike anything else I've ever watched or listened to. In the last four days I've hunted down copies of Voices, "She and Her Cat" (Tuesday), "The Place Promised in Our Early Days" (Wednesday) and, just tonight (Friday), - "5 Centimeters per Second". I also just watched Tooi Sekai.
After spending my whole life distancing myself from anime I'm amazed at how one man's work has so completely changed the way I look at things.
All this has also introduced me to the works of Tenmon, which I am blown away by. His simple piano melodies differ greatly from the other stuff I've been listening to lately, but I feel like it's all taking me in a new creative direction - and that's something I'm excited about.
It's great to find a community of fans such as this. I eagerly anticipate Shinkai's next work, whenever that will be...
