Watching again tonight, I really got to thinking that Kanae still should have said something to Takaki ... even if she felt he was always looking past her. What do you think?

In the overview of the of the novel he explains that Takaki turned around in a cold manner with his eye's saying "Don't say it."
If you pause at the very short shot of this, you will notice Takaki is looking at her rather coldly actaully. I wish, he made that more clear in the movie some how because it's very easy to not see that small detail.
So Takaki's not stupid, just anti social/depressed? It would have not fit with the movie if she told him or her character. She was still bad at talking to him and the cold look did her in. It was only natural for her to want to go home after that but she had to walk home with him. Which added to the movie alot, must have been painful for her. Takaki just ignored it staring blankly ahead then looks at her confused when she begins crying.
I thought the confused look was a little off, why was he suddenly acting sympathetic? _________________ You know your old when, you reapeat things... you repeat things... you repeat things. |

Hmm, I agree with you there.
Takaki did go a bit over with that cold look. (I had a lot of trouble finding it, or rather seeing it. It wasn't clear)
I felt a bit angry at him for this, even though nothing was said, he should of had a good idea why Kanae started crying after she had held back of his shirt for a brief moment.
Sometimes I think even saying nothing would be better than pretending you didn't know something.
The launching of the rocket came at the most perfect time possible. They had both wanted to see a launch soon one day and with Kanae crying, it created an excellent mood to cease without feelings of awkwardness or the like. |

| I remember this scene well, because the expression on Takaki's face is so distinctive, resembling more than ever the boy from Episode #1. It was the same expression as whenever Akari would be bearing her heart to him about her situation. It was as though he couldn't bear to hear or see her crying. So, I agree that it was like he was telling Kanae "don't tell me." |

| Thinking about it again, I came to a conclusion that maybe Kanae should have told Takaki how she had felt regardless of what they both thought. It does not matter if he always looked beyond Kanae. It matters not when Kanae realised that. She had felt for him hence should've said something before they had seperated. It's been a long time since but I know how it felt to hide your feelings until it's too late to express it. Unless you are fast in moving on, you'll have a difficult time enduring the pain. |

I'm much happier about the times when I actually did "confess" to someone rather than the times I didn't. Not like the results didn't end up the same ...but it feels a little better to have taken a chance.. _________________ You're a woman, I'm a calf ... you're a window, I'm a knife ... we come together making chance into starlight ... - Jeff Buckley

But then we would not of had the long ackward walk home. I enjoyed how the rocket took Kanea's mind off what just happened for a little while. _________________ You know your old when, you reapeat things... you repeat things... you repeat things. |

| Yes, like I said before, the rocket came at the perfect time though she still should have said something. At the end of Cosmonaut to me, it shows how innocent Kanae really is. |

I love that scene when they walk home, but maybe she should have told him how she felt, after all, it's better to say it than live a life in regret, wondering what might have happened if she had said something. _________________ Of all the things I've lost, I miss my mind the most. |

That is such a hard question. I'm gonna have to watch the movie again and get back to you.
Oh and props to the rocket scene - possibly the best of the movie, for me anyway. I actually forgot to breathe whilst watching that part for the first time. It was just so unexpected, but perfect at the same time.
