WOW! Can you explain to me how you got those photos, Junpei? I thought you lived in Sydney? And how did you find the places from the movies? Do you just know the area well enough that you immediately recognised them when watching?
Great work that was so interesting. I liked how there were tiny, tiny details like the red arrow at the train crossing that were the same in both pics - or the yellow trucks in the background before the train whizzes past.
Shinkai's images are a lot softer than the photos will ever be - I think that's the word I would use to describe it - "softer". _________________ There are certain moments where some people should just be left unknown.
I'm glad you liked these pictures as much as I did, they are great. And I do live in Sydney.
I cannot take credit for these pictures unfortunately (Haha ), as it was from a blog I had found where a Shinkai fan visited Japan to take photos of some of the locations used in Byousoku 5 CM. I remember he explained it was quite a difficult find to find the exact places especially with all the different train lines which link from here to there.
I think most of those are in Tokyo too ... is that correct? One of my hopes is that I can make it to some of these locations and get some photos taken there. That would be very cool.

I think my all time favorite Shinkai scene from any of his works is probably the rocket scene in 5cm. And I've said it before, but I'll never be able to shake the feeling I got when I first saw that scene. It literally took my breath away. I forgot to breathe. I think it had something to do with the initial silence and the flash of the fire appeared and the breathlessness of the characters on the road (wow I am terrible with character names, I'm ashamed to say).
There have been a few moments in his works that have left me feeling like I'd been punched in the gut. Like the very end of Places, which was more to do with my feeling that it couldn't possibly have ended; or in 5cm when the music video started, and then at the end when the train finished blocking the crossing and the girl was gone - just how it perfectly synched with the music...
Another one of my favorites was at the end of Voices when Mikako lists the things she misses about her old life in her message to Noboru.
"You know what I miss? ...the street in the night - and the day in the rain."
I thought the way the beautifully put together images mirrored what she was describing was fantastic.
Loved it. _________________ There are certain moments where some people should just be left unknown.
^ Totally agree with Nick on the scene with Mikako. It was so touching how she described the simple things she missed.
One of my favorite scenes has to be from 5cm when Akari and Takaki come out of the train station and the camera slowly moves upward to show the beautiful snow falling down. It was so calm and beautiful, I felt relieved that they had a chance to witness that together after all the trouble with the train delays. _________________ Of all the things I've lost, I miss my mind the most.
Hmm what would have been my favorite scene... There were quite a few I loved but one that got me and hasnt been mentioned was when Hiroki hits the unnamed pilot with the Bella Ciela. With out it I don't think I would have really relized a war had commenced. _________________ Hello I am an artist...

Another scene I loved was when "She" hanged the phone up and knocked the chair onto the ground. I kinda pictured her with a small moment of rage before breaking down on the floor crying.
Wasnt a favorite at all but was just curous about a realistic situation. When Takuya and his old boss are across the border makeing a weapons deal and are fired on by the security guard. Wouldnt of those rounds have completly torn there ship apart? Not to mention completly rip off Takuyas arm. Not to mention the rounds just cleanly punched there ships armor, wouldnt it have torn chucks of it off.
So instead of being hit by a round Takuya would have been crushed by there ships armor.
Just a uesless question I thoguht of the second itme I watched it XD
