Yes .. my first anime love was Macross (Robotech in the USA). I was obsessed with it when I first saw it back in the early 80s and I had slowly collected it over he years. Some of the subsequent series were either "ok" or "meh". Macross Frontier is awesome. The animation, story, music ... so far ... very good.
Anyway ... if there are any Macross fans in the forum who haven't seen this new series yet, check it out. highly recommend it.

Haven't heard of it until now, but I'll definitely check it out since I love Sci-fi stuff in manga or anime. Thanks for recommending it, Laz! _________________ Of all the things I've lost, I miss my mind the most. |

I really like all the easter egg type things from the previous series ... from a whole episode on Macross Zero to old Minmei songs it's very clever and the characters are well constructed. I'm hooked (if you couldn't tell already)

Anyway...
I know I should watch the original Macross sometime. What is the title of the original series? I know there was three in a row or something (I'm ignorant of this, and confused from what little I know.) _________________ I have opinions, opinions on things |

For Macross ....
I'd avoid the US "Robotech" series and watch the Japanese series ..
1. Macross: Super Dimensional Fortress
2. Macross: Do You Remember Love (motion picture OVA for the first series)
3. Macross Zero (Takes place Chronologically before Macross SDF Series)
4. Macross Plus
5. Macross 7 - Long series, about 56 episodes
6. Macross Frontier.
1 and 2 are really good.
3 I like, short series and ties in to Frontier
4 is a good story ... short series.
5 is Looooong ... but Nekki Basara is the man!
6 is the most recent series, awsome series ... good music and lots of easter eggs/homages to the previous series.
enjoy,

So, Macross and Robotech are two different things?
========
(from Casablanca)
Louie: So, why did you come to Casablanca, Rick?
Rick: I came here for the waters.
Louie: Waters? This is the desert.
Rick: Guess I was misinformed.
========
So, guess I was misinformed.
I haven't watched either (except for one episode of Macross), so I'm in the dark on this one. _________________

Well ... the US Robotech Series is actually a stringing together of 3 separate series ...
1. Macross: Super Dimensional Fortress
2. SOuthern Cross: Super Dimensional Cavalry
3. Genesis CLimber Mospeada
These series were never part of the same story line in the originals. Harmony Gold strung them together and named them Robotech and wove them together into a trilogy story line.
The US and Original Macross are similar but the US version changes stuff, like Protoculture being an energy source rather than meaning coming from the same culture. The US Minmaei songs are horrible compared to the original Japanese songs sung by Minmei.

Ah thank you. I have a bit of a queue going at the moment but I'll keep Macross SDF in mind. _________________ I have opinions, opinions on things |

Thanks, Laz, for clearing that up.
I use to subscribe to Protoculture Addicts, because it was about anime and I thought the name was rather cool. Then I found out where the name came from (i.e. the "Robotech" version) and that the people who started the magazine where big fans of Robotech. I never really liked the magazine that much and didn't renew the subscription.
So, I'll have to check out the real Macross. But like Ikaruga, for now I'll have to just add it to my list.
