Tenmon uses Myspace? Shocked

I love his character. A person who composes beautiful music yet keeps his anonymity.

Well I'm really glad I could share that with you guys - although I'm afraid there's nothing much on his page. It's mentioned here (http://cherryblossomsfalling.myfastforum.org/sutra1779.php) so I figured you'd all seen it. Anyway - the music he's put up there kept me going til I found the thread on here with links to the album downloads. Ah, the internet...

"There are certain moments where some people should just be left unknown."

I think that's gonna be my sig - although shouldn't it be "when" instead of "where"?

Ahh, Tenmon's everlasting quote. Cool

Very true too. Sometimes curiousity kills the cat so it's better leave things as they are for then it keeps its mysterious nature which I'm sure seems better for everyone.

Just got recommended this album by a Tenmon fan on LastFM.

It's a zip file with mp3s inside, hosted on this guy's personal server. I'm half way through it now - it's Tenmon alright!

EDIT: I've just realised it's probably not a good idea to link to the download directly on here. If anyone else wants it I'll pm you the link Wink

I did manage to acquire his 'Lost Empires Saga' album, via internet, since I lacked a way to purchase it. He has another album called 'Kaze no Seruferiasu'. I haven't been able to find that one anywhere.

Both are independent (From what I know) albums of his and are mentioned on his website.

Lost Empires Saga has several catchy instrumentals. No bad tracks. I really like it.

Agreed - although I can't say I'm into any of his tracks that use a female vocalist. It seems that every one I hear ends up sounding corny and unlistenable. That includes "Voice" from The Place Promised OST and also the climax track of "Voices of a Distant Star". And of course the second track Lost Empires Saga. They all share similar characteristics. But yeah I love the instrumentals, especially the piano solos - beautifully simple.

Interesting, I'll keep an eye out for that other one.

Just a quick observation about these two tracks from the Place Promised OST. Here's a quick fact from wikipedia: in japanese, tenmon literally means gates of heaven, appropriate huh?

Sayuri's Theme
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EYAo9rT3WXc&feature=related

Hiroki's Theme
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y_avx1RFPX8&feature=related

I find that these two tracks highlight Tenmon's genius for taking a melody, and varying it slightly to change the entire emotional content of the song.

In the case of both themes, the melody (C major, 3/4 time) is stated at the beginning of each, which acts as an introduction. In sayuri's theme, a variation then follows which introduces the acoustic guitar (and synth pad later) and lends itself to a primarily major tonality throughout, with straight triads matching the often arpeggiated melody, with few extensions, conveying the content of the scene (3 friends on a summers day in the beautiful pastoral landscape).

In hiroki's theme however, the same variation is played (or roughly the same, very few notes are actually altered, though a small portion of the melody is cut out), and yet by substituting minor chords instead of major at certain places within the progression, and adding the lush orchestral accompaniment, he manages to completely change the feeling of the song to that matching the mixture of hope, longing, melancholy facing the characters (specifically hiroki), basically without altering the melody at all, giving a real sense of continuity.

Truly amazing. I find that he does this well also with the 5 cm per second soundtrack too.

Listen to:

The Feeling that doesn't reach (D flat major)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7zRwHNbWOJI&feature=related

and Kanae's feelings (C major)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CrtJMk0bUhA&feature=related

Practically the same melody and chords (except for the B section which changes a bit) and yet the instrumentation, and ornamentation of the melody changes the feeling completely.

What're your thoughts on this?
