Darn, Koji. You beat me to it. Mad

Well, here's the ANN story.
http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/n...ost-hound-tears-to-tiara-get-dubs

I'm looking forward to it, especially since they're offering an "upgrade." And even if not, I'd still buy it.

Dango, dango! Very Happy

If the upgrade will take off 2/3rd of the price, I'll be a happy camper.

I'll leave you with this great mash up of Dango Daikozaku.

I knew Greg Ayres was gonna be Sunohara when I first saw the show. Luci Christian as Nagisa, however, that was surprising.

Robert's Anime Corner Store is offering the trade-up for $20 + the two discs: http://animecornerstore.blogspot....nad-season-1-upgrade-program.html

If you only have one of the disks, it's $35.  And you didn't even have to have bought from them originally.  RACS has been my go-to retailer for anime and manga for a few years now and I'd vouch for them.

I'm sure some of the other retailers (like rightstuf) will be offering something similar.

I'm like Koji. Lucy Christian as Nagisa is a bit of a stretch. The two roles I've heard her do - Akari in Azumanga Daioh and Shirakawa in Pani Poni Dash - show an edginess to her voice. It'll be interesting to see how she does Nagisa.

OK, so I decided to watch the Dub version of Ep. 1 on Anime Network, just for the heck of it. Well, I think I can now understand the frustration some have with dubs, but only because I'd watched the Clannad sub about 2 or 3 times. Normally, I prefer dubs, but only because that's what I normally watch.

Let me re-phrase a bit. I'm used to watching the dub version of a show, so I have a hard time getting into the sub version. Now, after having watched the sub version of a show a number of times, I'm having a hard time getting into the dub version. This all seemed rather confusing, until I realized something, a point I'll bring up in the next paragraph.

So, what about the dub version of Clannad?? Well, something came to me while listening to Section 23's choice of voices: Japanese voices generally are more high pitched than American voices, plus the Japanese language seems, for lack of a better word, more intense in its speaking. So when I heard the dubbed voices speaking lines that I'd only heard from Japanese voices, I found them to be deeper toned and more mellowed (don't know if "mellowed" is the best word for it). Of course, this left me with nothing to say but, "Huh!", as my understanding of the characters had been based on the Japanese voices, something which I think is true with most anime fans who watch mainly subs, then later try to watch the dubbed versions of their favorite shows.

Also, I noticed that the dub version had been "americanized" in some places. Not just in the pronounciation of names (like TO-mo-yo becoming To-MO-yo, and NA-gi-sa becoming Na-GI-sa), but in certain references, like Nagisa referring to herself as being like a certain Japanese fictional character who was similar to Rip Van Winkle; however, in the dub version, she was made to say "Rip Van Winkle" instead.

Since my video stream was a bit choppy, I couldn't judge whether the dubbed voices were in sync with the character's lips. But even so, I'll still order the DVD upgrade. And even if I grow tired of the dub, I can always change to the original audio.

I've been watching the Clannad dub. Up to Ep. 18. Had a little trouble getting into it at first, but I'm learning to love it. Greg Ayres as Sunohara is the most outstanding, I think. Kotomi's English voice is a departure from the Japanese; it seems to take away some of the mysterious quality of her character, but at the same time it helps her blend in better with the rest of the cast. However, Hillary Haag as Fuko is just too adorable. Smile

That box set has gone on my "must have" list. Did you get the box set? If so, are there any extras that come with it?
