Great news!
But the things about the laws seem to be very complex.
Still a lot to do. I am looking forward to see your Super Project Management skill, laz
If I can do anything, please tell me. It is a pleasure to help.

In talking with Sai, it seems that CrunchyRoll might be a little slow for the folks in China. I'm not sure if there is anything similar in China or not. I'm going to send an email to CrunchyRoll to see if they can offer any insight.
So ... we need the following ...
1. Set a Date: March 7th is a Saturday. I say we go with that ... Thats close to March 4th (first meeting of Takaki and Akari)
1a. Get Volunteers (Time zone leads, etc.)
1b. Define the event - Contests, schedule, structure
2. Publicize:
2a. Create website for event
2c. Define tag line for event (i.e. Shinkai Day - This world, we think we like it!) and brand ( banners, links, etc. that we can include on our sites.
2d. Spread the word ... press releses, blogs, podcasters, etc ...
3. Prepare for the event.
I think the main thing I'd need right now would be people willing to do some of the creative work (banners, button links, etc.)

Youtube has all the movies, but I'm guessing they were put up illegally... _________________ Of all the things I've lost, I miss my mind the most. |

Yeah ... and that might be the best option for people that want to participate but don't have the movies. I'm really hoping that Crunchy Roll gets access to these films in time.

I sent an email to CrunchyRoll tonight to see if they would be interested and to see if they might get the rights to show Shinkai's works.
I've sent an email out to Sai/Kasan (Chinese site) and Daike (Japanese site) to gauge interest and to give overview ...
I've done some thinking on the event and here is what I feel needs to be done between now and the event.
1. Set the date: I'd be looking at March 7th or 8th. These dates are close to March 4th ... a significant date in Shinkai-space.
2. Get a website up ... here I'd need some help with creative work as I am not the most artistically gifted person. It would be great to have a site up early January 09. this would give us a few months for publicity.
2a. Define the schedule: Generally set what films will be shown when and how we intend to mix in the fan made content.
3. Publicity: Grass roots publicity on sites/blogs, forums. With 2 months I'm sure we could drum up interest in the event, especially if ComixWave is on Board and CrunchyRoll.
4. Running the Event: We'd need a core group of people that would partake in the event and help run it.
I anyone is interested in helping out with the we site creation, please let me know. We'd need to get that up and running prior to any form of publicity for the event.
Thanks,

Just doing a little math on the time frame for each person's own Shinkai marathon. (Run times are from the backs of the DVD cases)
5 minutes - She and Her Cat
30 minutes - Voices of a Distant Star
90 minutes - The Place Promised in Our Early Days
65 minutes - 5 Centimeters Per Second
---------------
= 190 minutes, or 3 hrs, 10 mins
Add breaks, chat and such, it would probably be about 4 hours out of one's Saturday.
I thought this might help for individual scheduling purposes. Any comments? Did I figure this right? |

Yeah ... thats about right ... Ill need to sprinkle some more fluff so that we have 4 * 6 hour blocks rather than 6 * 4 hour blocks, to get us to 24 hours.

There's also his shorts and game intros you could use to pad some time between the main shows.
