Where he said, "I am happy to understand that no matter where I go, my life will continue," I really liked that statement. Sort of reminds me of "This world, I think we like it."
Is it really mostly guys who like Shinkai? Of course, he was at a girl's school, so naturally a different sort of audience.

Thank you kzoue.
I would've really wanted to hear the girls sing One more time...
"but this time all of audiences were girls, which make me a little nervous. I think this will not happen again."
Did he mean he will not be nervous again or not have a female only audience again? |

Thanks again Kzoue
What a great attitude Shinkai has ... definitely seems like a nice guy with his head on straight.

I think he wanted to say it is impossible for him to have another chance to face so many female audience again.
As Shinkai said, most of his fans were male. I am always wondering why...
The topics of Shinkai's works are love stores, which should be more attractive to girls. I can't figure it out... |

Maybe it's because his stories are too damn realistic.
I mean take a look at a typical Shoujo manga and you'll be able to see the contrast with Shinkai's works. Shinkai tends also to avoid the 'Flowery' type treatment of the characters, scenes, and stories.
Maybe its also because some girls at that age find Shinkai's works too confronting. They really get you to start thinking, and most love stories aimed at that market tend to be more 'escapist' in nature, and I guess these stories don't meet the expectations of the mass market and so noone really talks about them or shares them with others.
I know personally that I found this aspect of the works quite refreshing, but then again I am not a teenage girl. Bah! I always found them too difficult to understand, I suppose that's why I've never held down a conversation with a girl past 20 seconds.
Anyways, that's my take, I'll probably come back later with more thoughts... be afraid... be very afraid... or at least prepared. |

I see exactly what you mean. Comparing Shinkai's works with typical manga or anime results in the differences simply screaming out at you. I don't think I remember any person I've met having a second thought in his type, at least where I live anyway. Still, you don't see many people prefering the serious and realistic stories to the typical laughable romance or drama which are so darn "colourful" these days.
