i know that "voices of a distant star" was entirely made on his personal PC (!!!!!)
what about this anime... as all of you know and think, it is absolutely, amazingly, incredibly etc. wonderful...the landscape, emotions, people...

is this anime created in a special animation studio? is Makoto Shinkai  the one who...made the characters...or the scenery as well? what's his part in the producing (i'm not sure about this word) of this anime?

i know i must sound pretty silly...but i have some humble interests in how animes are made...and i was just curious...how it was made...and if  makoto is so praised...which was his part in the succes of this anime...oh, i hope you can understand what i mean

if anybody has some knowledges in this domain i would be so extremely grateful if he/she could sher them with me

Hi Laetitzia,

It's amazing that Shinkai-sensei created "Voices" with limited means. If you check out each of the films on Diake-sensei's web site ... he's got the information on the hardware and software that was used for each film.

Very amazing film indeed, as one of shinkai's biggest fans. I can say that all of his films are created in a very similar way. Primarily, storyboard art, animation storyboard, then character sheets, all created in photoshop/ by hand and paper and 3d models done in 3dsmax or lightwave. Then Compositing and animation is done in AfterEffects and/or commotion. Smile OH and of course, music by Tenmon Wink.

anyone intrested in the wallpapers I have created for shinkais brilliant work, can find them at

and my fan group on Animepaper, all are welcome Smile

makoto shinkai is the director.

byousuko 5cm was made on two dual core power macs while makoto shinkai used a 2.5 quad core power mac. There where also some i macs used.

In the extras on the DVD, there is an interview with Mr. Shinkai, and during the interview a video clip is shown of him or someone else creating a character image free-style on computer. Also, he mentioned that for one year of production the main staff worked out of his house, and it showed clips of staff members working away at their computers in the different rooms there.

Yeah. On the US release there's a "making of" clip showing the locations they scouted for the anime, plus interviews with Shinkai and four of the Japanese voice actors.

Hmm, the Bluray version is not a limited version one though. I thought it would be more worth it to be that (the one with the filmstrip). Does anyone know if it's still in stock?
