Another good suggestion.
Sandman is great. I have the original comics and Gaiman does a great job.

From a purely non-anime/manga graphc novel perspective ... here are a few recommendations ...
1. The Dark Knight - Frank Miller is amazing
2. The Watchmen - Great story, probably one of the best comic stories ever
3. Grendel - Great story, cool characters, very good.

Oddly enough, I'm not reading anything right now. I just finished The Phantom of the Opera by... some French guy whose name I can not remember. I liked it, but it isn't my favorite story in the world.
Although I'm a fan of a lot of anime, I don't read manga. I think I was traumatized by an especially gory/violent/horrific manga years ago, and I've never really gotten over it... xP |

What was it?
Gantz was pretty violent but not much. |

I think it was "Detective Conan" or something. I vaguely remember someone being, uh... unable to... keep herself together... >_>
But it was probably just because I'm easily disturbed.
But enough with my negative comments that only serve to embarrass myself! I really need something to read. I think I'm going to go take a look at Hans Christen Anderson's fairy tales... |

| Detective Conan... that old manga on mysterious murders and such? I think I still have a few books from years ago. |

Since I saw that Naruto thread in one of the threads I've been busily catching up on the manga ... up to 350 now ... only 41 more to go.

I must admit it felt most wonderful when I was reading Ichigo 100%. Took me about a week to finish all 167 chapters. That's how good it is.
