i thought you might all like to know that eminence symphony orchestra has recently released "project promise", a compilation CD commemorating Tenmon and Makoto Shinkai's 10th anniversary. the CD contains songs from all of the Tenmon / shinkai projects to date performed by most of the best players from eminence.

for those of you who haven't heard of eminence (im guessing thats the majority of you) here is a brief overview. Eminence is a sydney based symphony orchestra focusing almost exclusively on video game and anime classical music. they are in fact, the largest orchestra of their type in the world. while performances featuring the full orchestra generally consist of loud, deep, powerful music (see MGS theme below) they often send a quintet  abroad for performances out of state.

a video is worth a thousand words so here are 2. unfortunately youtube sound quality is pretty low, sorry. believe me when i say that seeing them live is mind bogglingly good, and that even CD is a substantial improvement on these vids.

i have been trying to get to a concert since late 2006, but something always gets in the way. be it air fair costs, (i live in perth, the most isolated city in the world Sad ) family, or as last year, virgin canceling my flight with less than 5 hours notice.  Mad
finally, last month i managed to see them at their first ever concert in perth, promised legacy. (it was totally worth the wait BTW a full quarter of the concert was dedicated to Tenmon songs) where i bought all of their available CDs and got them signed after the concert.

the promise CD is all the "best" ( most memorable and distinctive) songs from each movie recomposed for a live performance and played by an eminence quintet. i have all of the shinkai / tenmon OST disks and i love them all, but promise is in a league of its own, not only is the sound quality above and beyond all the others, but the live recording ads even more soul to the songs we all know and love. so i guess what this whole long post is saying is, you should all go check out the CD. it is worth every cent and if your a tenmon fan (as you obviously are if your reading this) you wont be disappointed.

this is a "teaser" from project promise, i dont think the song needs any introduction, though it does start half way through.

anyone else an eminence fan? or have this CD?

It's funny, I had originally thought that the background music in Romeo x Juliet was amazing before I learned that the Eminence Symphony Orchestra had performed it!  The only anime they had performed the background of that I know of.  I need to get the CD for this one too.

It's listed as out-of-print on cdJapan's site, which is where I'd normally import such stuff, but it is listed on Robert's Anime Corner Store!  I might pick it up next time I do a big order from Rob's (which might be a while since I just made a pretty significant Amazon order). Unfortunately, I don't know if he can ship outside the U.S.

Use the catalog number COCX-34784 when looking for the Romeo x Juliet soundtrack.  You might find a place that has it available in your area.

The Eminence Symphony Orchestra's CD "Promise" is now available on  the i-tunes US site for $9.99. It is a wonderful CD and well worth the price.

I may have to update mine first. Haven't used it in a while. Thanks, Tracer Racer.
