Yeah, I had just ordered the Promise CD (Along with the Sora no Woto OST and the 5cm/s Bluray) from CDJapan before Tracer Racer X posted that it was on iTunes.  Oh well.  Anyways, I did want a physical copy of the disc (along with the rest of the order).

CDJapan did send me a message that they shipped the order yesterday; can't wait!  Smile

Yeah, I'd like to get the actual CD someday, too, but for now I'll settle for burning the files to disk.

Speaking of iTunes, here are the hurdles I had to go through to get the entire Promise album.

1. I had to update iTunes.
2. I tried to open the update, but it said that I had to update Quicktime to use iTunes.
3. So I updated Quicktime, opened iTunes and clicked on the iTunes store, but then it said I needed to update Safari.
4. So I updated Safari (which I never use), opened iTunes again, and clicked on the store.
5. Then I had to create an account, because it had been so long since I'd shopped there.

Well, after all that, I did get the whole album. But I'm out of CD-R's, so I'll have to make a trip Walmart now, which is a whole different ordeal in itself. Such is the life of a Shinkai/Tenmon fan.

I agree. The music is gorgeous.

I think that, whereas Tenmon himself arranged his music along the lines of 19th-century stylings, Eminence used styles more associated with 20th-century music. And they did an excellent job, too. I wonder what Tenmon's thoughts would be regarding the CD.

Currently listening to the Romeo x Juliet soundtrack (performed by Eminence) and I was just wondering;

What are the chances of the Eminence Symphony Orchestra performing for the next Shinkai movie?  I mean, there's some really bombastic orchestral tracks on the R x J, but I would love to hear a full, epic orchestra framing a Shinkai scene, written and composed by Tenmon, of course...

Here's one of the tracks on the RxJ OST - Fureai: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OHEOCLWJLsM

I really love how that one crescendo up through to the end.

UPDATE: Oh no...  the website is down...  That is not very good news... Sad

Wikipedia is reporting the following (Emphasis is mine):
Quote:
Meanwhile, Eminence Group Pty Ltd which represented Eminence Symphony Orchestra and its services through license was placed into voluntary liquidation with an appointed liquidator on 21/01/2010. A resolution to wind up the company was made on the same day.[1]

The Eminence Symphony Orchestra continues to operate through Eminence Artists in Australia, IMAGINE INC in Japan and Eminence Group North America in the United States of America.

Not sure what to make of this...

UPDATE 2: Looks like the Japanese site is up, though.

UPDATE 3: The English site is now mostly up, some of the sections are missing, though.

It would be cool if maybe their was a bigger score for the next film. Not that Tenmon's scores are not up to snuff. I wonder if thats more a part of the budget for the films than anything else. CoMix Wave is still a fairly small company with a more limited budget.

A great idea though. I posted on here that I saw the orchestra here in Baltimore perform the music of Final Fantasy. I think it would be great to see a show that was focused on the music of Tenmon and some other folks.

Yeah, Tenmon's compositions are great, but from what I've observed Shinkai's movies, The Place Promised only needed a small string ensemble (5 violinists, 2 violists, 2 cellists, though I don't think any piece actually required more than a quartet) along with a guitarist and pianist to encompass all of the music.  I do hear a few other sounds, like a harp and some woodwinds, but it sounds like those were put in via synthesizer to fill out the music in The Place Promised.

Five Centimeters Per Second actually didn't need any more than a string quartet (2 violinists, 1 violist, 1 cellist), a guitarist, and a pianist (and a synthesizer for percussion in a few tracks).  Considering the type of movie it was, it didn't require any more than that.

But go back to that RxJ track I linked to above and listen to it.  Listen to when the brass section kicks in the middle of it.  Listen how it flows into a counter-melody as the song builds up to its climax.

In Shinkai's next movie, I'd like to see a scene that is deserving of such a full symphony orchestra powering it.  And I'm pretty sure Tenmon can compose it; his work at the climactic end of The Place Promise and that piece behind Kanae successfully surfing in 5cm show me that he's capable of composing music that a full orchestra can really show off.

Then again, it might just be a limitation of what budget ComixWave can supply for a full symphony orchestra like Eminence (though, how did the deal get together for the Promise CD?), and only fanboys with full soundsystem setups like mine will be able to fully enjoy such tracks (even listening to orchestra music on headphones lack a bit compared to when kettle drums are ringing out of the sub rattling your joints... and house... Wink ).  But I still like to hear Tenmon music driving Shinkai's movies that's as rich as the music in, say, Vision of Escaflowne or Romeo x Juliet (And those are 26-episode series which would require a much larger set of tracks to work with; A movie would only really need at most 2, and given how Shinkai formats his movies, one fully-orchestrated track maybe all that's needed).

Oh, of interest to note in this topic, Eminence apparently did the orchestration behind the Disappearance of Haruhi Suzumiya movie (Link goes to OST on Eminence Online site).
