|The letters in 5 Centimeters really struck a chord within my heart---
When I was little, I was shy, often prone to clumsiness, and was far too self conscious to make any lasting friends.
But one year a boy in my class walked up to me as I was standing at my locker, and handed me a folded piece of paper. The second I had taken it in hand, he walked off, muttering not a single word.
What followed were three years of exchanging short notes at school, and long letters over the summer. From time to time we would hang out, and gradually we bacame best freinds.
We were an odd pair --- but he remains...very close at heart.
I still have the letters he wrote me; a card he made for me on my 12th birthday; a paper crane he folded for me when he heard about my parents getting a divorce. lots of stuff like that.
So...the letters in the film, really touched me.
They helped me remember him, and the time we spent together.
I laughed watching Takaki stumble through writing Akari a letter. It was much the same way for me.
