That's odd on IMDB I see 533 total votes on the rating for 5 Centimeters Per Second and 442/533 are males that voted.

I'm quite surprised that it's such a high ratio, as well I think most of us if not all on this small board are males!

Oh well can't wait to show my parents I'm sure they have not seen anything like this before!

You made it before me! I was going to post saying this also but it must have slipped my mind. Yeah, I've noticed most of the fans of Shinkai's works are male. Pretty interesting, you would think males aren't usually into these kind of things. Smile

WEll I know I sure am into these type of things! I showed the film to one of my female friends and she enjoyed it very much. But maybe we just relate to Takaki and the males in his other films more some how.

I would think it's all the same!

I don't actually know anyone who is a fan of Shinkai's works.

Heck, I only know one person who has even heard of Makoto Shinkai.

But that aside, I am somewhat surprised that mostly guys (at least on that site) liked 5 Centimeters. I've always liked stories like 5 Centimeters Per Second (or romances in general), so that explains it for me. (I'm also a guy.)

I would like to see more of these types by others also. I love going through different people's worlds!

My guess would be that the majority of people that watch anime are male an are thus exposed to this film. Unfortunately, this film isn't really mainstream (at least not where I am) so it makes sense that out of a set of people that are predominately male, an equal ratio would be exposed to this film an like it. anyway ... just my ramblings Smile

I thought it was more girls that watch anime, in North America.

I don't have the research to back this statement up, just my observations from going to Cons and being a bit of a geek. Anime and manga are predominately still a male thing ... but there are more and more girls/women  at the events I go to.

It would be interesting to see the demographics used by the distributors.

Maybe because a lot of anime and manga are seinen, which are usually targeted at male audience.
