Yes the place that Takaki dreams about Akari was that hill that Kanea came to visit him on. As well it was the scene before Kanea was able to surf, she on the hill looking out over the landscape in wonder. I guess the place held a certain magic for her because of there talk with him on the hill.

The day when Kanae was able to stand up on her surfboard was one of my favorite scenes.
Started off in the morning, her sister driving her to the beach as usual and asks her about her future. Kanae had said, she doesn't know but it was clear to her now, she would do what she can. Then went out and succeeded to surf without falling.

That scene with the art and music combined with it, I loved it even more. Kanae in that scene alone seems to have grown up a lot, she is really a strong girl. I just can't say enough how much I admire her.

She's good hearted but I don't feel she's strong at all in the movie. Really I think the episode for her was just a major turning point in her life and she will learn alot from it. Form her chracter I highly doubt she would be pining like Takaki when she's in her late 20's

That is what makes her strong, to me, when a person learns something they become a bit "stronger". It's like as if they took a step ahead in life.

Then we are in agreeingment because I see Kanea growing up alot after this episode with Takaki. It was better for her then him returning feelings I feel actualy.

That portion of the film was my childhood romance in a nut shell.
To me, it was one of the most moving parts of the film.
Shocking to watch, really.
