It's the same on this end --- really, the...I guess "deeper" meanings I try and pull forth from the various animes I watch are the whole reason I watch them in the first place --- good animation is a plus, but really what I'm looking for is a story with underlying messages that either teach or touch [probably both at the same time] my life in some way. áI think Wolf's Rain was the first, then FMA, and now, it's everything Makoto Shinkai whips out --- like a salve for my soul.

I ironically, his work has also inspired my writing muse, a joy I've totally taken advantage of.

Absolutely agree. No matter what emotions are conjured up, whether anger or joy, anguish or envy, regardless of consequence, are truly great feelings, for it gives us the lifelong experience and also meanings of our existence.

*nods* I won't deny that I have discovered much of my identity through various animes, movies, books --- but really I think we pull bits and pieces from every experience we undergo.

Hey Hopeful ... welcome to the Forums Smile It's great to see you and Seraph discussing here Smile

I posted this in another thread but I saw this movie again last night, without dub/sub ... so I was paying close attention to the movie itself. Just awesome.  The music and the art are great ... the thing I noticed was the items that were chosen as part of that montage ... moments from Akari or Takaki's life ... moments from Kanae's life (her crying as the plane with Takaki takes off) .. those pieces that together with the rest of the story really give you an idea of how Takaki and Akari lived ... one moved on and remembered love and one didn't move on, for whatever reason he had.

Try watching the movie without the sub or the english .. just the Japanese, let me know if you feel you notice more Smile

Hey, I have a burning question...

You know how it seems Takaki 'saw' Akari a few times during the montage?
Was she really there running after the train in the snow, or standing at the beach? Or was it just Takaki hoping that she was?

Also, in the second story Akari is supposedly standing right there beside him at the beginning and the end of the story. Was she really there?

I'm not certain about the other times, but I'm fairly sure that when they passed each other at the train railway Akari as really there, but decided not to turn since she was already engaged etc.

And welcome to the forums, Adam!

LOL, thanks...

I was just really confused over when she was and wasn't there, cos' at some points she couldn't have gone from Tochigi all the way to Kagoshima...

Those parts are fragments of reminiscence to Takaki so it may be Akari or it may not be. It is only small pieces of memory reminding him of his childhood past. I'm sure Shinkai wanted it to end with the "drifting" imagination of the audience so it's up to ourselves to determine whatever we wish.

Oh and Adam, welcome.

Its funny I just posted something on this on another thread ... there are a few times in the Cosonaut section where Takaki is on the hill side and he sees Akari .... I think we finally see her face later on in the third or late second part.

She's not really there ... just more of the memories or hopes/wishes in Takaki's mind that keep him from noticing Kanae (or anything else).

Welcome to the forums Adam!

Laz
