Crunchyroll is also going to be showing Sketchbook ~full colors~ starting this evening (Sept. 17). I've been waiting for this one to come out, ever since I first read about it a couple of years ago. Looking forward to both. Smile

UPDATE: Sketchbook is just too adorable. I watched the first episode and was instantly hooked. However, Crunchyroll's streaming leaves a lot to be desired, and I'm not sure if buying an anime membership would make it any better. I just hope this series comes out on DVD in the near future.

Just finished watching the last episode of Time of Eve, and it's an excellent one.  And it leaves room open for future seasons!  I do hope that happens, and I do hope I can purchase this fine independent animation on Bluray or DVD at some point!

In fact, any BD or DVDs released in Japan is now on my short-list to get as soon as it comes out!

It'd be nice to watch some of the stuff that's been released in Japan but not yet over here. My only limitation is with the R2 format. Are R2 players hard to get? I've heard of region-free players; I think a friend of mine has one. Would something like that work?

Yeah, a "region-free" DVD player can usually play DVDs from any region.  I had one before I got my Bluray player.  Keep in mind that North America and Japan are part of the same region for Bluray, so Japanese BD will work in players here as is.

Keep in mind that English subs on Japanese releases are very rare, but there are a few titles I picked up that had them (like Mind Game and Pale Coccon).

Thanks, Zitch. Subs or not, there are some anime that will probably not make it over here that I'd like to see. Something else to add to my wish list.

Waiting for Crunchyroll to release Time of Eve #6. It was scheduled to be streamed today, but for some reason it's been postponed. I love this series, but hate that it's so short (only six episodes, no more). My favorite character is Akiko, an android with heart.

Actually, I meant Nagi who runs the cafe. Akiko is cute, too. But I really have a hard time keeping my eyes off Rina. Wink

Yeah, Ep#6 did leave you wondering if there would be more episodes. It explained a lot of things and rounded out the story pretty well, but there has to be room for more.

Yeah, Nagi is the one who runs the cafe, but there's a very small hint as to what she is in the last episode... Wink

I'll have to rewatch this one for sure. The "hint" was one of those things that I let sneak up on me and didn't pay enough attention to.

I've been hooked on Cross Game.  Episode 27 is the most recently subbed episode, and I can't wait for the new episodes to come out each Sunday night.

The scene at the end of episode 24 (the one where Koh asks Aoba to pitch to him in the empty field) just floored me.  It's one of those situations where you'd have to have watch all of the episodes up to that point to really understand.

I tried out a few other sports drama (Whistle!, who's manga-creator also created the only ice hockey-based manga that I've found scanlated called Go Ahead, the first few episodes of Touch, which was created by the same guy who created Cross Game, and Taishou Yakyou Musume), but none of them have gotten close to the lofty level that Cross Game has hit for me (though Touch may get there, but the first few episodes just haven't grabbed me and I have it paused for now).

And I might be one of the few viewers that really don't care if there are romantic feelings between Koh and Aoba down the road.  For now, Koh treating Aoba as an equal, even a mentor, gives me great satisfaction now.

I haven't watched the anime, thought I've been reading the manga. I really really like the manga ... perhaps Ill check out the anime.

Up to Cross Game episode 31 now. áMajorly cheap coincidence that could have wrecked the story leading up so far, but the series has actually handled this surprise with great skill so far! áAnd Koh's and Aoba's relationship really needed to be shaken up (Akaishi too, actually...). á

Also watched Cencoroll, the most recent 30-minute "animated by one man" movie to come out. áIt's not as significant as Pale Cocoon or as emotional and powerful as Voices of a Distant Star, but it's a more fun and slicker little animation. áI didn't find it as innovative as some, but still a recommended watch. áI'm going to have to watch it a second time (and this time not while scarfing down bacon and eggs before work) and write more about it.

UPDATE

Here's a pilot/pseudo trailer for it (I think it's the pilot as it features scenes not in the final movie or that were modified before put in the final shot):

This trailer has scenes from the actual movie:

Newbie Atsuya Uki has really put out a fine product!  Hope to see more from him.
