Shinkai's 'distance triology' is over now; where do think he'll go with his next feature length project? Where would you like him to go?

Personally i'd like to see him do and all out sci-fi story~ but still somehow use his touching story telling skills to make it emotional.
Then again however, I'd also like to see him do another ordinary story like 5CM; but maybe focus on some other aspects of relationships.

Another thing to consider is what Menasha said previously:
Menasha wrote:
I have a feeling his next piece is not going to be set anywhere in Japan. I think he immigrated to Europe not only to study English, but to come up with more ideas. He wanted to experience something very new.

I'd like to see him tackle some foreign ground. A story set in my own Britain or Wales would be nice to see. Shinkai's take on the city life in other countries could be very interesting.

That's something that i hadn't really noticed before you mentioned it; but Shinkai's filsm are all to do with young people. Seeing him animate more adult stories could prove to be very interesting.

If you haven't noticed, most Anime and manga are got to do with young people. Maybe because the concept of younger people usually have more effect than seeing adults as they can inspire almost anyone.

I hope his next project focuses on more a more adult life how ever. It seems like he's telling his life story though his own works and I have a feeling he is ready and wants to move onto more things now.

Not to mention most my favorite anime's so far have all had adult main characters. Useally the motives are more serious. Same goes for video games. My favirote video games are games that the main chracter(s) are adults.

I'd love to see him break away from the longing/loneliness vibe of the first few movies. Whatever he comes up with, I can't wait to see it Smile

I hope he incorporates imagery and influences from his travels. I do think melancholy/nostalgia/depression are what he is strongest in when writing characters, and want him to expand rather than abandon these.

I agree ... I think he's going to include something from his travels ... maybe a different spin on a folk-tale or theme from some of the new places he traveled to. From Daike's site, it definitely appears that he's really been touched by his travels.
