Here's one that I like, made by Rumiko Takahashi, the anime adaptation started on the same month and year I was born (too bad it wasn't on the same day). Started March 26, 1986 and ended March 2, 1988. It's a romantic comedy that as far as I can remember started up quite a bit of popular plots and gags in romantic comedies to follow. It's also the only one of the four long running series by Takahashi that ended corresponding with the manga's ending.

At 96 episodes, it's the shortest of the four long running series (the other three being Urusei Yatsura, Ranma 1/2, Inu Yasha). Even though it's long, it's very easy to remember how much time has passed (in the anime) as the main character Godai, who starts out as a ronin and then makes his way through college, struggles through the story with love.

It doesn't have anything too extraordinary. No gunfights, no mecha, nothing much but going through life. Because of the story itself, I found myself attracted to this series.

I wish someone had told me which episodes I could have just skipped. I thought it was pretty uneven, pacing was weird and the plot got repetitive with throwing gimmicky obstacles in between Godai and Kyoko way.

But....

When the writing was on-the-ball, this show has some of the best in all anime, and the wrap-up leaves one with a sense that the series in total is somehow more than the sum of its parts.

Finally decided to see this classic that had on the shelf for quite some time... Smile

I'm now in Ep. 16...I'm enjoying this very much (thought it's always around Godai (and his timidity/clumsiness) and kyoko (her doubt)), but it's always new things that get between Very Happy

Also the other tenants of Maison Ikkoku (they're something else Laughing

)...What a trio Laughing

, it's like the Three Stooges, but for worst Laughing

and the victim is always Godai Laughing

I'm glad...that finally start watching this Wink

Yeah, it does get a bit repetitive in some parts, but it's kind of hard not to when you look at a long episode count, romantic comedy/drama, and also a work by Rumiko Takahashi. But despite that, I'd say this still remains as one of my favorite anime series that's in my collection. Considering its age and episode count, I'd have to say it's excellent in quality of animation and sound.

Hehe, sorry about that. I forgot to specify, it was more of a response to davus0's post. In my opinion, Maison Ikkoku is the better of the anime adaptations of Rumiko Takahashi's works. Although I can't say it just yet, I still have to watch Rumiko Takahashi's Anthology and all of Urusei Yatsura (195 episodes, 11 OVA episodes, and six movies) of which I've only seen less than five episodes and only one of the movies.

There's actually quite a bit of Japanese culture and mythology in UY.

One of the things I like about Maison Ikkoku is after watching it and looking back on other series. I see so many references to the anime Maison Ikkoku in other romantic comedies that come after it. Some scenes in Chobits is reminiscent of events in Maison Ikkoku, and pretty much plenty of Love Hina can be found in Maison Ikkoku. Although Love Hina did change a few things up, but still quite a bit of plot elements are borrowed.

That's what I like seeing, how different series effects each other over the years like that. It has been a while, I was busy for a couple weeks, but then when I was about to make a few posts, I found myself busy again. This past week too has been unlucky for me, lost internet for three days, then was busy again. Having a break from things to check things out again.

So...since I didn't work this week (I'm ill)...I could watch this Anime... almost nonstop... and I'm so glad... this in indeed excelent Anime Very Happy

I'm not going to tell the history Smile

, but sometimes they get on my nerve, mainly near the end...when...hehehe... (Godai and is good will, the misunderstandings he suffer, Kyoko beeing so stuborn but so comprehensive)...hehehe... and I'm glad, really glad Very Happy

Anyway...I would like to thank Fiction, for introducing this Anime Wink

No problem, when it comes to some of my favorite series, I'm glad to share in hopes that others will like it just as much as I do. That way there'd be one more person to discuss the series with. Sometimes when watching the series, I really wish that the other tenets wouldn't be up to their usual gags. Although at the same time, it adds a little bit of tension to the main plot because of their meddling.

Hope you feel better soon, although sometimes I really don't mind getting sick. Then I could watch anime or manga that I have backlogged. The list is quite big, there's still a good amount of them left for me to watch/read.
