Frequently, the characters in Shinkai's films are reading books or have reading material around them during scenes. Post in this thread with the names of books and authors of those books that you notice.

Kenji Miyazawa's poem "Morning of Final Farewell."
I feel like I may have cheated on this one. I was trying to read the title of the book Sayuri is reading in the opening scene of "The Place Promised." The resolution of my monitor is not so great, so I could barely make out the characters at the top of the page. So I did a google of "Sayuri Sawatari reading," and it came up with a page from Daike's site talking about the pilot film, and a little ways down it says that she's reading this Miyazawa poem. I did some more googling and confirmed this, though I couldn't find the complete text of the poem.
EDIT: Corrected the spelling of his name.
