I've watched the first two discs now and am waiting for the third. I still don' get it, but I'm hoping it will come together once I see the whole thing
Anythings I should be looking for as I watch that will help it make sense?

I've tried to take time to do a re-watch of this, but I keep getting distracted by other things.
I believe the main premise is this: humans have stopped evolving, so in the "real" world there is no way for them to advance. Then, somehow people discovered that if they die they can be "reborn" on the Wired. All except for Lain, who has learned that someone is impersonating her on the Wired though with a totally different personality, and she's trying to find out who they are. That's what I can gather so far. _________________ Remember Fu-chan!
I have started this series twice but haven't finished it
I'm a bit older now so hopefully I can "get it" a bit more. _________________ I have opinions, opinions on things
I'm in the middle of a re-watch myself. Though I can sometimes see an overall plot developing, there are still some things that don't make sense. For example, there appears to be somebody impersonating Lain on the Wired (or maybe it's suppose to be her other self, who knows), and it clearly seems that it's not her; but then she will sometimes act weird herself, like it is her. So, it leaves one asking "is it her, or isn't it her?" It's things like that that really throw you off. _________________ Remember Fu-chan!
I watched this some years ago and, granted, it is an excellent anime, but the storyline is so complex that missing even 5 minutes of one episode will leave you lost. _________________ 'Thou shalt not converse with me' - Quas Farroway
Serial Experiments Lain is some sort of product resulted by the investments that japan made in the 70ties promoting the information society... . There were such great promises spinning around information technology -> AI, automated reasoning etc etc.
I see much philosophical reserch in this series about the concepts of memory, reality, individuals... information. The story itself isn't that interesting to me, just a vehicle uesd to pose questions to the spectator rather than explaining something clearly
I finally completed the entire series and I liked some of the questions it posed ... but it was difficult to get my head around. Perhaps I need to watch it again to see if I can pick up more.
