Here is a link to PlayAsia limited edition ... it's all in Japanese and it's not BluRay ....

http://www.play-asia.com/paOS-13-...49-en-15-byosoku+5cm-70-22ce.html

No english Dub .... hmmmmm ... tempting, even if it's just for the snippet of film that is included.

Very tempting indeed.

Price: US$ 66.90 (~71.85 AUD)

US Dollars too! Well, it's worth it.

Heh.  I actually imported the limited edition R2 DVD when it was released in Japan in August 2007:

Included the snippet of film and a soundtrack CD and a second DVD with some extras that I can't understand because it was all in Japanese... Smile

Also got the regular release of MindGame, which is a movie that never got released in the U.S., but the R2 DVDs did have English subtitles, amazingly enough.  Highly recommended watch, too, if you can find it.

Cost about $112 to get both, so I don't fully remember the cost for each individually and for shipping...

The animation looks very nice from what I see in the cover of mind game.

Oh, I forgot to put this in my original post, but I got it these from CDJapan, thought they're listing the set as "Out of Print".  This is a limited release, so grab it if you really want it (Keep in mind, too, it's Region 2 only and doesn't have English subs, though I have a region-free player so the R2 part doesn't apply to me... Smile ).  It included the booklet where the translation of one of the stories was linked in another topic.  This booklet looks to also contain some info in what software he used to create the film, much like the booklets that came with his earlier films.  The 5 film cells I have are of Takaki in the train in the first story (I should scan/photograph it and put it online one day).

The animation for Mindgame?  Well, it's more of a stylistic opposite of what Shinkai's movies are.  Then again, it's a Studio 4C film, who are, to me,  truly innovators in animation.  Where as Shinkai's films try for what I can best term as "hyper-realism" (The images on the films are often more realistic looking than the photos those images are based on at times!), Mindgame goes for a more surrealistic approach.  The animation quality is not at all consistent, but actually follows the moods and inner-most thoughts of the characters within.  I could say more, but I really need to move this to another post anyways...

Yes I here Studio 4 C is a very experimental animation studio which I would assume I would enjoy alot. How ever I have not seen much of there work, I've only watched "COMEDY" on you tube.

I enjoy 5 CM backgrounds though I'm not sure what you would classify them as, I don't think there hyper realism. Isn't that where you make a picture look like a photo.

In 5 Cm backgrounds it's more the backgrounds have been turned into more 2-d objects with a surreal approach to the color. Or at least the colors you would see seem to be punched up and saturated. Not sure what it is but I will just say it's his magic!

The region encoding would be a bummer, since I probably wouldn't be able to watch that (thought I do have the DVD already). Did your DVD come with the film snippets ? If so, what part of the movie did you get?

Also, I think the official release of the DVD in the US was today .... YAAAAAAAAAAAA.

Hey Zitch ... did your movie have English Dub or just Sub? The DVD I bought on Amazon seems to be one like yours (no English Dub) ... but it didn't come with the rest of the items.

That booklet looks gorgeous --- it reminds of the art book coming out in April
