I was reading this article on ANN when I got to this line (emphasis is mine):
| Quote: | | Studio Ghibli President Koji Hoshino added in July of 2008 that there is a likely chance that Ghibli will promote one of its own animators to direct a film or recruit a director from outside the studio. |
I know this will not happen, but who else's first response to the bolded section was "Makoto Shinkai!"?
Still, I can imagine it, right? Ghibli Studio's animation talent and budget lead by Shinkai's storytelling and directing?
And it's not like his modern slice-of-life stories wouldn't fit at Ghibli Studio; lookup Whisper of the Heart or Only Yesterday. Ah well, won't happen, though... |

If so, it would definitely put a hold on whatever project Shinkai is currently working on. However, he did say in his last blog that he had wanted to talk about it but was not ready, that it was still a work-in-progress. So, could this mean that his next project is one that he's doing for Ghibli? But please, don't quote me on that. You know how rumors get started. There goes me and my big mouth again. _________________

LOL, well, as I said, I have absolutely no expectations that this would be true.
But as long as we're dreaming...
Seriously, at first, I was worried about pressures affecting Shinkai's work if this were true. I have a feeling ComixWave gives Shinkai some wide latitude on his work. But then I remembered that Shinkai was "pressured" to make Voices of a Distant Star to be "more showy" by the producer as Shinkai was planning on expanding on She and Her Cat. This is why Shinkai went with a mecha-based theme. I actually think this is good, despite the criticism Shinkai receives for the mecha combat, as it gets Shinkai out of his "comfort-zone" and learns different ways to express things. |

So you think that Shinkai, himself, eventually would be eager working for Ghibli? |
